Smokemont — Creed Aventus 13Z01 Impression

Pineapple and bergamot open bright and sharp, with black currant and apple adding a tart edge. Then the birch comes in: dry, smoky, a little leathery. That smoke is the whole reason this batch has a following. Patchouli, jasmine, and rose sit underneath it in the heart, and the drydown settles into oakmoss, ambergris, musk, and a thin line of vanilla.

Aventus has been produced in dozens of batches since its 2010 launch, and collectors still argue over which one is best. 13Z01 comes up constantly. It's a 2013 batch known for more birch smoke and a fruit note that stays juicy without turning sweet. That's the version we built Smokemont around.

We named it for Smokemont, an old Champion Fibre lumber town in the Oconaluftee Valley on the North Carolina side of the Smokies. The name is a contraction of "Smoky Mountains." It seemed right for the Aventus people buy for the smoke.
