Not-Deer — Nasomatto Blamage Impression

Bright, realistic birch dominates from the first minute — sharp, sweet, slightly medicinal, one of the better wood notes in modern perfumery. Around it sit dry white woods and a leathery undertone, wrapped in a musk that turns creamy as it develops. There's something floral in the middle that's difficult to name, and a sweetness close to vanilla or tonka in the late drydown. Nasomatto has never published a proper note breakdown for this one; the house built it around the idea of a mistake, and it smells subtly wrong in a way you can't put a finger on. That's the entire concept, and it's the reason it's here.
We chose Not-Deer for the newest haint in the collection by a full century — the only one with a birthday. The phrase surfaced on Tumblr around 2018 and 2019 and spread from there. Plenty of people call it old Appalachian folklore; that claim usually shows up without a source. None of which makes the description less effective. A deer standing in the road, except the legs bend wrong, or the head turns too far, or it doesn't run when it should. Nobody claims it's a monster. Everybody says it was a deer. It just wasn't.
