Mount Mitchell — Amouage Epic Woman Impression

Caraway, cumin, cinnamon, and pink pepper open sharp and raw before a heart of damask rose, tea, geranium, and jasmine emerges, settling into oud, frankincense, patchouli, amber, sandalwood, guaiac wood, orris, vanilla, and musk. Mount Mitchell is a spiced rose with a resinous spine, the opening deliberately unruly and the drydown deep and smoky. Its incense holds long after the flowers recede, revealing a composition with no interest in being pretty.

We chose Mount Mitchell for its nerve. The cumin opening will divide people, and it should — it is what keeps the rose from turning ornamental and gives the frankincense something to push against. Serious, enveloping, and built to command a room, it is a fragrance for cold evenings and occasions that deserve the effort.
