Incense and myrrh open dark and resinous, sharpened by a bright cut of mandarin that keeps the opening from turning heavy. Underneath it an overdose of immortelle takes over — the maple-syrup-and-hay sweetness of everlasting flower, pushed far enough that it reads almost like licorice. Akigalawood and safraleine hold the base, giving the drydown a peppery, agarwood-adjacent depth with a warm tobacco-and-leather edge. Mothman is smokier and warmer than its reputation suggests, an intense resinous composition that stays close to the skin while refusing to go quiet.

We chose Mothman for the thing seen over a hundred times in thirteen months and never once explained. Between November 1966 and December 1967, more than a hundred people around Point Pleasant, West Virginia reported a winged figure six to seven feet tall with red eyes, most often near the old TNT area outside town. On December 15, 1967, the Silver Bridge collapsed into the Ohio River and killed forty-six people. Nothing connects the two. But the sightings stopped that night, and the story was never about a monster again.
