Woodbooger — Memo Paris Russian Leather Impression

Siberian pine needle and camphorous mint open cold and green, cut with basil and fern, before a fougère heart of lavandin, rosemary, and clary sage settles the composition into something herbal and quiet. Coriander and nutmeg warm the middle without sweetening it. Underneath, guaiac wood, patchouli, tonka bean, and a soft leather accord rise slowly over the first hour and hold. Woodbooger is greener and colder than its name suggests — an aromatic fougère with the hide showing up late, more forest floor than saddle.

We chose Woodbooger for the Southwest Virginia bigfoot who never quite leaves. In 2014 the Norton city council passed a resolution declaring the city a Woodbooger sanctuary; there's a statue at Flag Rock Overlook and a festival every fall. What separates him from his Pacific Northwest cousin is proximity. He isn't deep wilderness. He's at the edge of the yard, just past where the porch light reaches, and this fragrance smells like the air out there.

Longevity: High Wears close but stays put, holding well past eight hours as the green notes recede and the leather and tonka take over.
