Pinwheel's Vista sits on top of Wawayanda Mountain in Vernon, New Jersey, at the end of a climb hikers call the Stairway to Heaven: a run of steep rock steps that gains about 900 feet. It's named for Paul DeCoste, a trail volunteer nicknamed Pinwheel who helped build this stretch of the Appalachian Trail. On a clear day you can see across the Vernon Valley to the Kittatinny Ridge and the High Point Monument.
