Kings Mountain — Parfums de Marly Godolphin Impression

Saffron, thyme, and cypress open sharp and herbal, with a fruity raspberry facet and a faint metallic edge that gives the fragrance immediate character. Rose, orris, and jasmine soften the heart, buttery and restrained rather than showy, before leather, amber, Virginia cedar, vetiver, musk, and vanilla settle into a smoky, resinous base. Kings Mountain is commanding and refined — a smooth suede leather rather than a raw or animalic one, warmed by amber and rounded by vanilla.

We chose Kings Mountain because Godolphin is one of the more accomplished leather compositions in modern perfumery, and its balance is what sets it apart. The saffron gives it spice, the rose and iris keep it from turning harsh, and the leather stays supple throughout. At extrait strength the saffron holds its bite longer, the leather gains depth, and the amber-vanilla base carries with more weight. It projects confidence without needing to be loud about it.
