Raspberry and blackcurrant up top, cut with lemon so it stays tart instead of jammy. The middle is rose and ylang-ylang with a curl of jasmine tea, and it dries down soft on vanilla, musk and a little praline. Bright, easy, and good from breakfast on.

Nathalie Lorson made Meliora for Parfums de Marly's women's line. The house takes its theme from Louis XV and the horse races he loved, and Meliora is named for a chestnut mare foaled in 1729: the grandmother of Herod, the stallion behind another Parfums de Marly fragrance, which we carry as Brushy Mountain.

We named it for Huckleberry Knob, a 5,560-foot grassy bald in Graham County, North Carolina, and the highest point in the Unicoi Mountains. The Forest Service mows it to keep it open. Near the top stand a cross and a plaque for Andy Sherman, who left a lumber camp with Paul O'Neil in December 1899 to walk to Robbinsville in the snow. They were found months later, and a jury ruled they had frozen to death, lost and drunk. Sweet name, hard hill.
