Burn Pile — Amouage Interlude Man Impression

Brush cleared in the fall, stacked, and lit. The opening is aggressive on purpose — bergamot cut with oregano and pimento, herbal and peppery and slightly unruly, the smell of green wood resisting a fire. Then the smoke arrives. Frankincense, myrrh, and opoponax build a heart that is dense and resinous and genuinely churchlike, sweet in the way tree sap is sweet. Leather, oud, and patchouli carry the base into something darker: charred, animalic, and heavy, the smell of a fire that has burned down but not gone out.

We chose Burn Pile because Interlude Man is one of the few fragrances that smells like an event rather than an object. It is chaotic in the first twenty minutes and magnificent an hour later, and it rewards patience in a way most smoke fragrances do not. At extrait strength the incense heart becomes considerably denser and the leather base gains a smoother, less abrasive character — the original's famous opening turbulence is softened without losing its weight.

Longevity: High Exceptional longevity. Resins and oud persist through a full day and remain detectable on clothing the following morning.

Projection: High Strong projection. This is the loudest fragrance in the collection and should be applied conservatively.

Sillage: High Heavy sillage. Fills a room and leaves a trail. One or two sprays is the whole dose.
