Boozy Creek — Penhaligon's Sartorial Impression

It opens cool and sharp: aldehydes and a metallic edge over cardamom, black pepper, and violet leaf, like pressed fabric and steam. Lavender and beeswax fill the middle, with leather underneath, and it finishes honeyed and mossy over tonka bean, patchouli, amber, and cedar.

Sartorial is Bertrand Duchaufour's take on a classic fougère, built in 2010 around the smell of the workroom at Norton & Sons, the Savile Row tailors. The beeswax runs through the whole thing, a nod to the wax blocks tailors run their thread across before stitching. It's a barbershop scent with better manners than most.

We named it for Boozy Creek, a small stream in Sullivan County, Tennessee, between Kingsport and Blountville. Whatever story gave it that name is long gone. The name stuck anyway.
