We'll be straight with you. Parts of this smell like a zoo, and we mean that literally. The leather reads like hide, the sweet grass reads like hay, and the oud underneath has a funk to it that doesn't wash off easy. Some people wear it once and want nothing else. Some scrub it off in ten minutes. We can't tell you which one you are, and we don't take back opened bottles because they weren't your thing. Get the 2 mL sample first. If this warning made you more curious instead of less, it's probably for you.

Whiskey and rum hit first, with coffee and a crack of pink pepper behind them. Then it gets darker — tobacco absolute, leather, incense, a little sweet grass. The base is where it settles in and stays: Laotian oud, patchouli, nagarmotha, oakmoss, amber. This is a big fragrance. It does not ask.

Bearwallow Mountain rises above Edneyville in Henderson County, a bald summit with cattle still grazing the top. A bear wallow is exactly what it sounds like — the muddy hollow a bear makes for itself. Seemed like the right address for something this size.

Oud, patchouli, oakmoss and tobacco absolute are about as tenacious as perfumery materials get. The booze burns off early; everything underneath stays put.

Powerful from the opening, where whiskey, rum and coffee land together, and it does not quiet down much when the leather and incense take over.

A heavy, unmistakable trail of smoke, leather and dark wood. Wear it accordingly.
