Citrus first, mandarin, lemon and grapefruit, then orange blossom and jasmine folded into whipped cream. It dries down to marshmallow and praline over clean white musk. Sweet, but light on its feet: more meringue than frosting.
Nathalie Lorson and Hamid Merati-Kashani made Oriana for Parfums de Marly in 2021. The house says it was designed entirely as a variation on texture, and it was inspired by Chantilly cream.
We named it for snow cream, the treat a lot of mountain kids grew up on. Once the snow got four or five inches deep, somebody went out with a dishpan, and it came back in stirred with milk, sugar and a little vanilla, eaten before it could melt. There was always one rule: don't eat the first snow of the year. It was said to clean the air on the way down.
