Snake Hollow

This is rose with its sleeves rolled up. Saffron and pepper berries open it spicy and a little bitter, then the rose comes in huge — velvety, rich, and nothing like a bouquet. Patchouli and labdanum ground it in something dark and resinous. It turns sweet in places, but it never turns pretty.

Aurélien Guichard built Radical Rose for Matière Première, the house he founded, around an overdose of rose centifolia absolute from roses grown on his own organic fields in Grasse. It's meant to be a rose for anyone, and it wears that way.
