Honey and ripe fruit open it, mango, apricot, pomegranate and tangerine, sharpened with ginger, cardamom and pink pepper. Black tea and cappuccino give the heart a roasted bitterness that keeps all that sweetness in line, and tonka, vanilla, labdanum and vetiver carry it a long way into the night. Amouage first made it as Sindbad for Muscat's opera house, then released the same fragrance to the world as Elsewhere.

The Virginia opossum is the only marsupial native to North America. When John Smith described one, he said it had the head of a pig, the tail of a rat and the size of a cat. Its hind foot has an opposable thumb, its tail can grab hold, and when it's scared badly enough it drops into a faint it can't control, which is all playing possum really is. In an old Cherokee story, a possum climbs a persimmon tree to toss fruit down to a terrapin, and kills a thieving wolf with a persimmon big enough to choke it.
