Sea water and salt hit first, cold and bright, like spray off a bow. Green notes keep it fresh while cedar and woody notes build underneath, drying it down to a salty, sun-bleached wood that smells like a boat deck in August.

Norris Dam on the Clinch River was the Tennessee Valley Authority's first major project, finished in 1936 and named for Nebraska senator George Norris; the lake behind it has 809 miles of shoreline. Xerjoff released 40 Knots in 2012 in its Join the Club collection and keeps its notes a closely guarded secret.
