Vanilla's dark side. Saffron and coffee come first, then roasted barley, which gives it a toasted pull that reads almost like tobacco, though there's no tobacco in it. Frangipani keeps a little flower in the middle. Mahogany and vanilla carry it the rest of the night.

Yann Vasnier made the first Vanille Fatale for Tom Ford's Private Blend line in 2017. Tom Ford relaunched it in 2024 and called it vanilla's alter ego. Ours follows the current version.

We named it for Hell for Certain, a creek and community in Leslie County, Kentucky. Nobody knows for sure how it got the name. The story people tell has two riders coming down the mountain into the valley. One says, “This looks like hell.” The other says, “Yeah, for certain.” The Post Office never would allow it, so over the years the mail went to offices called Osha and Omarsville instead. The name stayed anyway.
