A summer revival meeting held under a tent. Heat, hymns, a crowd.

A revival tent in August with the sides rolled up for air, sawdust underfoot, packed shoulder to shoulder. The opening is bright and slightly sharp — pink pepper and neroli over lemon, the smell of a crowd that has been outdoors all day. Underneath, a dark sweetness builds: rum and vanilla warmed by clary sage, more like molasses and cured leaf than anything poured. The base is where it settles in — tobacco leaf, styrax, vetiver, and tonka, smoky and resinous, the styrax reading almost like church incense. It smells like a room full of people convinced something is about to happen.

We chose Tent Revival because Jazz Club captures a very specific thing: the atmosphere of a gathered crowd rather than the scent of any one object in it. Heat, smoke, close air, conviction. We moved that crowd from a basement to a hillside in August and found the notes needed almost no adjustment. At extrait strength the tobacco and styrax gain considerable depth, and the sweetness holds warm for hours longer than the original.
