Lake Lure — Kilian Moonlight in Heaven Impression

Grapefruit and lemon open it sharp and bright, with a little pink pepper to keep it from going soft too early. Then the fruit turns creamy: ripe mango, coconut milk, and a pale rice note that reads almost like steam off a bowl. The drydown is tonka bean over vetiver, sweet and warm with just enough earth underneath to stop it from turning into dessert. It's a tropical fragrance that doesn't smell like sunscreen.
Calice Becker built Moonlight in Heaven for Kilian in 2016 as a moonlit getaway, a romantic escape to a lost paradise after dark. That's the version we made Lake Lure from.
We named it for Lake Lure, the resort lake Dr. Lucius Morse and his brothers made below Chimney Rock. They dammed the Rocky Broad River in the mid-1920s, the lake was full by 1927, and Morse's wife Elizabeth gave it its name. Sixty years later, Hollywood came looking for a mountain lake for a summer romance and filmed Dirty Dancing there. A warm night on a mountain lake seemed right for this one.
