Burkes Garden — Hermès Terre d'Hermès Impression

Orange and grapefruit open it sharp and bitter-bright. Pepper, geranium, and a struck-flint mineral note take the heart somewhere dry and stony, and vetiver, cedar, patchouli, and benzoin give it an earthy, woody base. It smells exactly like the name says: earth.

Burkes Garden is an oval valley about 8.5 miles long, sitting around 3,000 feet up in Tazewell County, and the whole valley is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Jean-Claude Ellena created Terre d'Hermès in 2006.
